Baked beans

Baked beans are a classic barbecue side dish that are easy to make and always a crowd-pleaser. The combination of beans, bacon, and a sweet and savory sauce make for a delicious and comforting dish.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 lb. of navy beans soaked overnight and drained
  • 1 onion diced
  • 2 cloves of garlic minced
  • 4 slices of bacon diced
  • 1/2 cup of ketchup
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of molasses
  • 1 tablespoon of Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C)
  • In a large pot, cover the navy beans with water and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 1 hour, or until the beans are tender. Drain the beans and set aside.
  • In a large skillet, cook the bacon over medium heat until crispy. Remove the bacon from the skillet and set aside.
  • Add the onion and garlic to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, molasses, Dijon mustard, smoked paprika, salt and pepper.
  • Add the cooked bacon, onion and garlic mixture, and cooked navy beans to the bowl, and stir to combine.
  • Transfer the bean mixture to a baking dish and bake for about 45 minutes, or until the sauce is bubbly and the top is golden brown.
